EN) - 7 TRIGGERS

CONCEPTION OF SINGLE SHOT  MATCH ACTIONS
7-TRIGGER:
 -Trigger Principles:
There is 3 basic trigger principles to choose from:
1) ‘Single Pull,’ ‘Single Stage’ or ‘Direct Pull’:
The 'clean' let-off adjustment of this type of trigger is determined  solely by the limited engagement of the points of contact of the two levers trigger principle.
In this type of trigger, the engagement of the points of contact (trigger sear engagement)  is reduced to a strict minimum to avoid 'drag';  which cause an indeterminate and therefore erratic point of let-off.
These triggers are sometimes referred to as '2 levers' as only these 2 elements are involved in the active function of let-off. The employment in certain models of a  3rd lever (Remington and those derived therefrom for example) is only to enable the firing pin sear to be engaged, and therefore acts as a relaying FP sear cocking device only.
 2°) Set trigger:
For the record, as it is a development of the direct pull concept.
3°) Single pull triggers adapted to act as double pull:
The majority of '2 stage' triggers currently available on the market are incorrectly described as 2-stages. The same principle applies as for the single stage (above), the 'first stage' being obtained by an artifice - usually an extra spring which may be adjusted to add a 'first pressure' to the otherwise existing 'slack' before take-up of the normal engagement,  This then becomes the 'first pull'. Other artifices may be employed to achieve this, but this is by far the most usual (it is easy to arrange).  Whatever the weight of this artificial first pull, it has by necessity, been added to the existing (now second) pull. The nett effect is the addition of a artificially created first pull, without the inherent safety and easy adjustability of a true 2 stage trigger.
4°)) True Double Pull -2 stage trigger:
This model of triggers is a mpre complex design. Several well know single stage trigger manufacturers failed to produce a decent true 2-stage. I am often amazed seing excellent actions manufacturers, mainly in Europe, be happy to equip their actions with poorly designed triggers.
In this system, 3 levers are employed, each with a separate and specific function:
--1st lever - includes the trigger lever with its two differential (leverage) engagement points
---2nd lever - which pivots under the action of the two engagement points of the 1st lever. Also named “Cockng Lever’, ‘Trigger Sear Lever’ or ‘Hook’.
--3rd lever -  which, liberated by the Second Lever, which in turn was actionned by the first, allows the firing pin to be released. Also named Sear Lever’.
Adjustment on the first lever also allows the trigger to function in 'straight pull' ‘single-stage’ mode.
When this type of trigger is set up in classic 2 stage mode, the trigger internal sear engagement is considerable, and upon pressing on the trigger lever, the first engagement point (1st pressure) reduces this engagement to a safe minimum, comparable to that of a single stage trigger.   Then the second 'pressure point' comes into engagement with a much finer  (less than50%) 'leverage ratio', thus enabling the clean let-off of the device with no discernable extra trigger lever  movement.
When this type of trigger is correctly adjusted, releasing of the trigger from the point of second stage will automatically 'rearm' or “recock’  the device back to the first stage initial full engagement condition, thus guaranteeing that  the trigger (and therefore the firearm) is inherently safe.
With this type of trigger, a 4th lever may be added, this assuring the fu same function as the 3rd lever in direct (single pull) mode triggers.
The only know examples currently on the market and suitable for fullbore actions that satisfy the true 2 stage match trigger description are:
Anschuetz (although intended for smallbore actions).
  Gruenig-Elmiger
  C.G- RPA and Millenium (C.G Model 19).
C.G Model 22, for which a lihgtweight direct pull adaptation is also in the course of development, making it even more ‘Universal‘.
There is also other brands announced from time to time, but their appartenance to the true 2-stage category remain to be evidented.
