EN) DRY FIRING

EN) DRY FIRING.

I recently followed with a smile a thread on a serious shoote ‘rs forum a thread on training with or without a snap cap in the chamber ?.

The pros and contras posted as usual, the most virulent being those who were selling those gadgets. They praised the merits of the different models they offered.

One ‘authority’ affirmed that the dry firing could have the firing pin work-hardening…I was at this point wondering at what technical source he referred to state that quench-hardened steel could still work-harden ?.....in hiting neoprene, soft spring-loaded metal…and why not simply hitting  the air ?....

At this point, i decided to not enter in the discussion, as this was flying too low . I could have said that all action manufacturers were introducing in their designs a dry firing shoulder against which the firing pin collar or sear could hit with no damage. The same shoulder also acting as maintaining the correct protrusion. This wouldhave, I think, let understant my opinion on the subject.
